Moog Inc. Expands Niagara Falls Facility with New ISO Class 8 Clean Room to Accelerate Space and Defense Propulsion Production

EAST AURORA, N.Y. — In a major step aimed at meeting soaring demand across the commercial spaceflight and defense sectors, Moog Inc. has officially completed and commissioned a brand-new ISO Class 8 certified clean room at its advanced manufacturing facility in Niagara Falls, New York.

The state-of-the-art facility, which is now fully operational, represents a significant enhancement to the company’s manufacturing footprint. Designed to streamline the assembly, integration, and testing of complex thrusters and propulsion systems, the expansion increases Moog’s dedicated clean room capacity by more than 80 percent. Completed precisely on schedule, the new environment has been specifically engineered to support continuous, multi-shift manufacturing operations, addressing the increasingly urgent delivery timelines of modern aerospace and defense missions.

The newly commissioned workspace is built to manage the entire lifecycle of thruster production under rigidly controlled conditions. From precision subassembly and component integration to rigorous hot-fire testing, the streamlined workflow is expected to substantially shorten lead times. By bringing these critical manufacturing steps together in an optimized, high-capacity environment, Moog positions itself to respond far more rapidly to the complex and evolving requirements of its domestic and international customers.

Company leaders emphasize that the timing of this expansion aligns closely with shifting geopolitical priorities and an expanding commercial market. As national security frameworks adapt to new challenges, the pressure on the defense industrial base to deliver critical capabilities at scale has never been higher.

"As national security priorities evolve, we are rapidly transforming our manufacturing footprint to enable faster, higher-volume delivery of critical defense capabilities," said Mark Covelli, senior vice president of the Moog Space Division. "Our investments in capacity, workforce, and advanced production technologies ensure we can support the accelerated timelines demanded by missile defense, space-based interceptor, and Golden Dome programs."

The strategic importance of the Niagara Falls expansion extends well beyond national security applications, serving as a vital engine for the company’s broader propulsion business. The facility’s increased throughput is expected to benefit a wide array of flight programs, ranging from commercial communication and remote-sensing satellites to ambitious lunar lander initiatives.

"Our Niagara Falls clean room is a foundational enhancement for our propulsion business," said Mike Popadick, general manager of Propulsion Systems at Moog. "With this expanded, purpose-built space, we are equipped to ramp up production while maintaining the precise quality and reliability our customers expect, whether for satellites, lunar landers, or defense applications."

The new ISO Class 8 clean room does not exist in a vacuum; rather, it is designed to integrate seamlessly into the existing infrastructure of the Niagara Falls campus. The site already houses four sophisticated, in-house high-altitude hot-fire test chambers alongside extensive engineering and technical capabilities. This tight integration underscores Moog’s long-standing business model centered on vertically integrated propulsion expertise, allowing the company to retain strict control over quality, safety, and performance from initial design through final hot-fire validation.

To support the expanded operational tempo brought on by the new clean room, Moog has actively grown its local footprint in Western New York. Since breaking ground on the expansion project, the company has added dozens of new operations and engineering roles to its workforce. These new hires are tasked with maintaining the company’s stringent quality and safety standards while driving higher-volume output to meet the surging demands of the aerospace market.

Trading under the symbols MOG.A and MOG.B on the New York Stock Exchange, Moog Inc. brings a distinguished 75-year history of innovation and precision engineering to the aerospace and defense sectors. Throughout its decades-long legacy, the company’s advanced propulsion systems have played critical roles in powering missions across Earth orbit, deep space, and throughout the solar system. The completion of this advanced manufacturing clean room further solidifies Moog’s enduring commitment to enabling advanced space exploration, scientific discovery, and robust national defense capabilities for decades to come.
