Lightcurve Partners with Harmonic to Deliver Blazing-Fast Multi-Gigabit Broadband to Multi-Dwelling Units Over Existing Coax

Broadband service provider Lightcurve, which serves a wide array of communities across central and western Washington state, has announced a significant technological upgrade designed to transform high-speed internet delivery for residents living in Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs). By leveraging Harmonic’s advanced cOS virtualized broadband platform, Lightcurve is now capable of delivering multi-gigabit services directly to apartment buildings, condominiums, and other shared-tenant properties without the disruptive and costly requirement of replacing legacy in-building infrastructure.

The deployment relies on utilizing the existing coaxial wiring already installed within these multi-dwelling buildings. Through this innovative approach, Lightcurve can offer fiber-like speeds that reach an impressive 8 Gbps downstream and 1 Gbps upstream. This technological leap allows the regional service provider to substantially strengthen its competitive positioning in a crowded telecommunications market while effectively meeting the skyrocketing demands of modern consumers who require robust, high-speed connectivity for remote work, streaming, online gaming, and smart-home applications. Furthermore, by avoiding the need to tear up walls or run new fiber lines through established properties, Lightcurve is able to maximize the return on its existing network investments and streamline deployment timelines.

The backbone of this multi-gigabit broadband service strategy involves a swift and efficient software upgrade of the cOS Core, paired with the strategic deployment of Harmonic’s compact, low-power Oyster nodes. These nodes are equipped with Pebble Remote PHY devices, functioning within a distributed access architecture, commonly known as DAA. This modern architectural framework decentralizes traditional hub site functions, pushing intelligence and capabilities closer to the subscriber edge. Because the cOS virtualized platform inherently supports both DOCSIS and fiber technologies, Lightcurve gains exceptional operational flexibility. This dual-support capability ensures that the operator has the optionality to seamlessly evolve its network architecture over time as customer demand shifts and long-term investment priorities change, future-proofing their regional infrastructure against technological obsolescence.

In addition to upgrading raw bandwidth and network architecture, Lightcurve is simultaneously enhancing its operational capabilities by integrating Harmonic’s Central AI-driven network intelligence and operations suite. This advanced tooling grants the provider continuous network analytics and deep visibility across its footprint. With automated, data-driven insights, Lightcurve can proactively identify, isolate, and troubleshoot potential service issues before they noticeably impact the end user. This proactive maintenance model supports a consistently reliable subscriber experience, reducing customer service friction and ensuring that the newly deployed multi-gigabit speeds translate into dependable, everyday performance for residents across Washington state.
