EAST AURORA, N.Y. — In a significant move to bolster its manufacturing capabilities for both the defense and commercial aerospace sectors, Moog Inc. has officially announced the completion and commissioning of a brand-new ISO Class 8 certified clean room at its established facility in Niagara Falls, New York. The advanced, highly controlled manufacturing environment is now fully operational, marking a major milestone for the company as it looks to substantially accelerate the assembly, integration, and comprehensive testing of specialized thrusters.
The strategic expansion comes at a time of increasing demand across a wide array of spaceflight and defense programs. Completed entirely on schedule, the newly commissioned infrastructure increases Moog’s dedicated clean room capacity by more than 80 percent. This substantial physical expansion has been purposefully designed to accommodate continuous, multi-shift operations dedicated specifically to the production of high-performance thrusters and complex propulsion systems.
By housing the entire production lifecycle under one roof and within an optimized, ultra-clean environment, the facility supports a seamless workflow. Operations span from precision subassembly and physical integration to rigorous hot-fire testing. According to company leadership, this streamlined setup will effectively shorten production lead times, allowing Moog to respond with greater agility to rapidly evolving mission requirements from government and commercial partners alike.
The timing of the expansion reflects broader shifts in aerospace and national security priorities. Mark Covelli, senior vice president of the Moog Space Division, emphasized the strategic necessity of the upgrade during the commissioning announcement. As national security priorities continue to evolve at a rapid pace, Covelli noted that the company is proactively transforming its manufacturing footprint to enable faster, higher-volume delivery of critical defense capabilities. He further highlighted that ongoing investments in physical capacity, workforce development, and advanced production technologies are designed to ensure the company can fully support the accelerated timelines increasingly demanded by modern missile defense, space-based interceptor, and Golden Dome programs.

The newly operational clean room serves as a cornerstone for the company’s broader operational roadmap. Mike Popadick, general manager of Propulsion Systems at Moog, described the Niagara Falls addition as a foundational enhancement for the propulsion business line. With this expanded, purpose-built space now online, Popadick stated that the organization is exceptionally well-equipped to ramp up production volume while rigorously maintaining the precise standards of quality and reliability that customers have come to expect, whether those systems are destined for orbital satellites, deep-space lunar landers, or critical defense applications.
From a structural and engineering perspective, the new clean room does not exist in a vacuum; rather, it integrates seamlessly into the broader infrastructure of the Niagara Falls campus. The site already houses four sophisticated, in-house high-altitude hot-fire test chambers alongside an extensive array of engineering resources. This tightly integrated layout reinforces Moog’s long-standing model of vertically integrated propulsion expertise, wherein design, manufacturing, and validation occur in close physical and technical proximity.
The physical expansion of the manufacturing floor has also translated into tangible economic and employment benefits for the local region. Since breaking ground on the project, Moog has successfully added dozens of new operations, technical, and engineering roles to its Western New York workforce. These new team members have been brought on board to support the continued growth of the propulsion division while simultaneously upholding the company’s stringent, industry-leading quality and safety standards.
Moog’s propulsion systems have a storied history of powering some of the most ambitious missions throughout our solar system, contributing to the exploration of space for decades. The completion of this advanced clean room further solidifies Moog’s enduring 75-year legacy of engineering innovation, precision manufacturing, and unwavering commitment to enabling humanity’s reach into both commercial exploration and national defense.
