Chris Scolese caps a distinguished career spanning both civilian NASA and national security space operations, highlighted by nearly seven years as director of the National Reconnaissance Office. Scolese previously served with distinction as NASA’s chief engineer and director of the Goddard Space Flight Center.

The partnership between Loft Orbital and Marlan Space represents a major transatlantic and regional space initiative, highlighted by ambitious plans for the 50-satellite Altair-Next Gen constellation, which seamlessly combines Earth observation capabilities with onboard computing and artificial intelligence.
The collaboration between K2 Space and SES successfully pairs K2 Space’s high-power satellite platforms with SES’s advanced software-defined payloads for meoSphere, a next-generation Medium Earth Orbit network beginning with 28 specialized spacecraft designed to serve both commercial and defense customers. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope brings together NASA, ESA, JAXA, France’s CNES, Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, and institutions across the global scientific community to develop a next-generation observatory dedicated to studying dark energy, exoplanets, and the ultimate evolution of the universe; the telescope launched on Aug. 30, opening a new chapter in international space science.
The Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer (SMILE) brings the European Space Agency and the Chinese Academy of Sciences together for a pioneering mission jointly designed, implemented, launched, and operated by Europe and China. The spacecraft successfully launched on May 19 to study the complex physical interactions between the solar wind and Earth’s protective magnetosphere.

The Emerging Space Company category honors new, agile, or rapidly growing enterprises that are driving disruptive innovation and successfully opening entirely new markets within the expanding space economy.
Benoît Deper and Aerospacelab have successfully built Aerospacelab into a rapidly expanding European satellite manufacturer and operator, steadfastly pursuing vertically integrated spacecraft production and constellation development from facilities in both Europe and the United States. Lux Aeterna emerged from stealth mode with innovative plans to develop reusable satellites capable of safely returning payloads to Earth, successfully raising $10 million in 2026 as the company works diligently toward its first critical reentry demonstration mission.
Katalyst Space Technologies has pushed commercial satellite servicing into unprecedented operational territory with LINK, a rapidly developed robotic spacecraft sent to attempt the high-profile rescue of NASA’s aging Swift observatory, while simultaneously expanding its business portfolio into GEO servicing, active deorbiting, and other advanced robotic space operations. Skyroot Aerospace has significantly advanced India’s burgeoning private launch sector with the introduction of Vikram-1, marking India’s first privately developed orbital-class launch vehicle.
Innovative Technology

Xona Space Systems has advanced a compelling commercial alternative to traditional GPS with Pulsar, a Low Earth Orbit positioning, navigation, and timing architecture specifically designed to provide vastly more precise, resilient navigation services sourced from a modern constellation of satellites.
Individual Achievement
The Individual Achievement category recognizes dynamic leaders whose personal drive, strategic vision, and technical innovation have set demanding new benchmarks for operational excellence and inspired sustained progress across the broader space community.
Steve Altemus of Intuitive Machines has continued to successfully expand Intuitive Machines from a specialized lunar transportation provider into a comprehensive space infrastructure enterprise, highlighted by the strategic $800 million acquisition of Lanteris Space Systems and substantial ongoing investments in commercial communications, navigation, and orbital data services. Ian Cinnamon of Apex has helped establish a radically new paradigm for commercial satellite manufacturing, placing heavy emphasis on standardized spacecraft platforms, dramatically faster production cycles, and a repeatable methodology designed to bring mass-production economic efficiencies to the traditionally bespoke satellite industry.
Rafal Modrzewski of ICEYE has successfully led the continued global expansion of the world’s largest commercial synthetic aperture radar satellite fleet, skillfully combining robust commercial services with increasingly vital sovereign intelligence and reconnaissance capabilities for governments around the world. Shey Sabripour of CesiumAstro has built the company around advanced active phased-array communications technology, helping move high-throughput, software-defined connectivity from a promising laboratory concept toward fully operational space systems.
Deal of the Year
The Deal of the Year category recognizes transformative transactions, mergers, and significant investments that successfully reshape market dynamics, create formidable new competitors, or fundamentally alter the strategic trajectory of the aerospace industry.
AE Industrial Partners reached an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in L3Harris’s Space Propulsion and Power Systems business, successfully reviving the historic Rocketdyne name for an enterprise whose propulsion heritage stretches back more than six decades. EQT reached an agreement to acquire Exolaunch, providing the previously self-funded German launch integration and deployment company with crucial outside financial investment and institutional resources to accelerate international expansion and develop advanced new services.
Intuitive Machines successfully completed its substantial $800 million acquisition of the former Maxar Space Systems, integrating decades of elite satellite manufacturing experience as the company aggressively pursues its goal of becoming a fully vertically integrated space prime contractor. NASA turned to Katalyst Space Technologies for an unusually rapid commercial servicing mission designed to rendezvous with and actively raise the orbit of the agency’s scientific Swift observatory, testing a streamlined new procurement model for acquiring time-sensitive in-space services.

The Space AI Breakthrough category recognizes critical technological advances that successfully harness artificial intelligence and high-performance computing to fundamentally transform spacecraft design, onboard data processing, and day-to-day orbital operations.
Aethero successfully launched its Phobos spacecraft equipped with an advanced NVIDIA-powered edge-computing module, demonstrating a robust platform specifically designed for continuous onboard processing and demanding compute-as-a-service applications. Alex Greenberg of Loft Orbital has helped drive the company’s aggressive corporate push to bring artificial intelligence and high-performance computing directly into orbit, enabling modern satellites to process increasingly massive volumes of raw data directly in space before transmitting actionable intelligence down to ground stations.
Starcloud has advanced the rapidly emerging concept of space-based data centers by successfully developing high-performance orbital computing infrastructure explicitly intended to run increasingly power-hungry and demanding AI workloads directly in the space environment.
Commercial Space Achievement
The Commercial Space Achievement category recognizes pioneering companies and successful missions that have tangibly advanced commercial space capabilities and contributed substantially to the ongoing financial and operational growth of the space economy.
ICEYE successfully expanded its synthetic aperture radar satellite network while deploying an innovative new generation of spacecraft capable of delivering high-definition imagery down to 16-centimeter resolution, effectively supporting both demanding commercial enterprises and sovereign government missions worldwide. Impulse Space and Starfish Space successfully demonstrated autonomous rendezvous and proximity operations utilizing Impulse Space’s Mira spacecraft alongside Starfish Space’s advanced proprietary technology, critically advancing the commercial capabilities required for future satellite servicing and complex in-space logistics operations.
SEOPS and Exolaunch successfully expanded their launch integration and rideshare coordination services during a period of surging market demand for operational alternatives in the commercial launch sector, helping numerous satellite operators secure reliable, flexible access to orbit across a broader spectrum of available launch vehicles.
Sustainability and Environmental Impact
The Sustainability and Environmental Impact category recognizes exemplary corporate leadership in utilizing advanced space technology to protect Earth’s environment while proactively advancing more sustainable and responsible operational practices in increasingly congested orbital domains.
Hydrosat successfully expanded the practical application of thermal infrared satellite data for critical water resource management, modern agricultural optimization, and global climate monitoring, while simultaneously unveiling Osiris, a next-generation constellation designed to combine 25-meter thermal imagery with broad-area coverage and daily revisit rates. The Space Data Association continued its vital mission of bringing commercial and government satellite operators together to routinely share operational telemetry, promote active collision avoidance, and champion responsible operations within increasingly congested orbital environments.
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory officially began issuing real-time scientific alerts in February, establishing an automated system expected to eventually generate millions of automated alerts each night regarding rapidly changing astronomical objects and transient events ranging from near-Earth asteroids to distant supernovae.
Civil Space Achievement
The Civil Space Achievement category celebrates major scientific breakthroughs in deep space exploration, fundamental astrophysics, and high-profile public-sector space missions.
The Artemis 2 team successfully returned astronauts to the vicinity of the Moon for the first time in more than half a century, carrying NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch alongside Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen on a complex, nearly 10-day flight around the Moon aboard the Orion spacecraft. Gurpartap “GP” Sandhoo assumed leadership of the Space Development Agency while concurrently becoming the Space Force’s portfolio acquisition executive for missile warning and tracking, overseeing the accelerated deployment of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture and its rapidly expanding constellation of tactical military satellites. Impulse Space successfully expanded its growing national security portfolio by securing a $28 million U.S. Space Force contract for an upcoming space domain awareness mission utilizing its highly maneuverable Mira spacecraft operating in Low Earth Orbit.
SpaceWERX continued to effectively utilize the Space Force’s specialized small-business innovation programs to transition emerging commercial technologies toward practical military applications, broadening the industrial pool of innovative companies actively contributing to national security space architecture. The VICTUS HAZE team successfully demonstrated the U.S. Space Force’s most advanced tactically responsive space mission to date, with advanced spacecraft provided by Rocket Lab and True Anomaly supporting realistic, dynamic rendezvous, proximity operations, and space domain awareness scenarios following an intensive, rapid-response launch campaign.
