This month’s release embraces the distinctive charm of October, characterized by misty mornings, leaves shining in vibrant shades of red, yellow, and orange, and the spooky, playful anticipation of the upcoming Halloween season.

Designed by the community for the community, these creative digital backgrounds aim to brighten computer screens and spark inspiration for remote workers, designers, and digital enthusiasts alike. True to tradition, all wallpapers are available in a variety of screen resolutions and can be downloaded entirely free of charge. The publication extended its gratitude to the global creative community for contributing their talents to the ongoing project.

A Global Celebration of Autumn and Halloween
The October collection spans a diverse array of artistic interpretations, capturing everything from quiet seasonal moments to universal cultural celebrations. Among the featured pieces is “A Night Of Universal Magic And Joy,” designed by PopArt Studio from Novi Sad, Serbia. The artwork reflects on the worldwide phenomenon of Halloween, noting how the holiday unites people across cultures and continents.

“From candlelit streets in Europe to vibrant festivals across the Americas, Halloween has become a global celebration that unites people of all ages,” the design studio noted, describing the night as a magical occasion where children step into the shoes of their favorite heroes for candy-filled adventures while adults rediscover the playful excitement of childhood. Glowing pumpkins and festive costumes light up the autumn dark, bringing neighbors together and proving that joy transcends age limits.

Other designers focused on the serene, cozy, and reflective atmosphere of the autumn months. Football Charts, also hailing from Serbia, contributed “Under The Floodlights,” a geometric illustration capturing a quiet moment before an October football match begins under warm stadium lights against a dark autumn sky, complete with a scattering of fallen leaves. Similarly, Ginger IT Solutions offered “Coffee Weather,” an intimate autumn scene celebrating the colder mornings, warmer clothing, and the comforting ritual of warm beverages outdoors.

The collection also explores imaginative and playful narratives. Ricardo Gimenes from Spain contributed multiple pieces, including “Voodoo You,” “Hanging,” “Ghostbusters,” “AI,” “King Of The Pirates,” and “Halloween 2040,” showcasing a distinct stylistic range. Meanwhile, Libra Fire from Serbia presented “Midnight Mischief,” adding another layer of seasonal intrigue to the lineup.

Literary and natural inspiration heavily influence several works in the collection. Livia Lénárt from Hungary drew upon L.M. Montgomery’s classic novel Anne of Green Gables for the wallpaper titled “Magical October,” referencing the famous sentiment, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” Lénárt also contributed “The Crow And The Ghosts,” inspired by the poignant thought that if a heart were a season, it would undoubtedly be autumn.

Nature, Migration, and Nostalgia
The transition from the warmth of summer to the crisp air of autumn inspired numerous international artists. Eline Claeys from Belgium shared “Bird Migration Portal,” recalling childhood memories of watching swallows leave their nests near her bedroom window every October, dreaming of the warm places they traveled to escape the cold.

Nature’s transition is also central to “Hello Autumn” by Belgian designer Erin Troch, who combined apples and squirrels to highlight the seasonal harvest. Jelle Denturck, another artist from Belgium, utilized gradients and simple shapes for “Transitions,” capturing October as the ultimate "back to nature" and "back to basics" month. Gwen Bogaert reflected on childhood beach walks along the coast of Nieuwpoort in Belgium with “First Scarf And The Beach,” celebrating the Dutch concept of uitwaaien—walking in the wind to clear one’s head and relieve stress.

PopArt Studio returned to the collection with “Shades Of Gold,” an energetic visual celebrating the burning sunsets, subtle sunrises, and rich yellows, ochers, and oranges of the fall landscape. Miruna Sfia from Romania captured the universal desire to stay indoors with a pot of tea, cookies, and a blanket in “Tea And Cookies,” while Amy Hamilton from Canada contributed “Autumn Deer.”

Explorations of the cosmos and surreal landscapes also find a home in the October catalog. Verónica Valenzuela from Spain designed “Discovering The Universe,” embracing the idea that autumn offers the best stargazing weather for spotting new galaxies or UFOs. Hilda Rytteke from Sweden celebrated forest walks with “Autumn In The Forest,” and Ana Masnikosa from Belgrade captured the architecture of nature with “Autumn Gate.”

Cozy domestic scenes are highlighted in “Game Night And Hot Chocolate” by Lieselot Geirnaert from Belgium, while Trillion, based in Summit, New Jersey, brought a humorous touch with “A Very Pug-o-ween,” featuring pugs dressed in elaborate Halloween costumes.

The collection also revisits memorable designs from previous years, including Frank Candamil’s retro-futuristic zombie-rover mash-up “Roger That Rogue Rover,” Hong ZI-Qing’s traditional Taiwanese interpretation of “Hanlu” (Cold Dew), Robert Brodziak’s rainy-day coding inspiration “Dope Code,” and Thuy Truong’s joyful ode to the season, “Happy Fall!”

Looking Ahead to November
As the community enjoys the current selection of October art, Smashing Magazine has already turned its gaze toward the upcoming month. The publication announced that the November wallpapers will be published on October 31. Creative professionals, illustrators, and designers interested in featuring their work in future wallpaper collections are encouraged to submit their designs through the platform’s official submission page.
